Why arts-based inquiry?
The very reason we undertake an inquiry, be it therapeutic, as a team, or in education is to come to know something more than what is a given, so that we may get to where we wish to be.
It is an acknowledgement that the story, knowledge or paradigm we currently hold to is no longer enough to support us in our flourishing. It is a step in creative adaptation.
New ways of being
Creative processes have a delightful and gentle capacity to inspire our curiosity and open us onto perspectives never previously considered; it beckons us to wonder beyond what we know cognitively in the acts of interpretation or hypothesising. It acknowledges that knowing can be held in metaphor and imagery.
The body is our bridge to the present and the creative process directly invites us out of our reasoning intelligence and into other forms of feedback available in the here and now. We use art processes to facilitate an expansion of the “bandwidth” of intelligence, beyond the mind and into the sensory, in support of a movement into preferred ways of being.
