Experiencing mental illness can thwart our communication, overwhelm our decision making and leave us feeling scattered, disembodied and disoriented. We may feel extremely isolated in the wilderness of our unspeakable internal terrain, disconnected from the world around us and those we treasure.
Art therapy offers us the potential to re inhabit our bodies, give voice to our emotional and physical experiencing and find tools to be gently be with ourselves, and those who inhabit our inner wilderness.
We will be use various mediums to inquire into the emotions, values and needs present for us, as we sit alongside others in their inquiry. Clay, paints, found objects, journals, and our bodies will support us in our inquiry as we stay with what emerges and make meaning of our experiencing.
Jacqueline Grace is a qualified Creative Arts Therapist who works with the arts a as tool for inquiry and therapy in her private and group practice with Beautiful Wasteland. She is also an educator at The MIECAT Institute, a post-graduate centre for creative and therapeutic arts practice.
