What’s adorning our tables and happening in the studio at the moment? Jacqui works from her Studio at Burrinja Gallery in Upwey, I’m around the corner in my outdoors studio. I follow @ottimade on Instagram and she has what’s called a “faffing table”! Great name, I think my house looks like a “faffing place” right now though, I can’t quite keep it contained..
There are so many flowers around at this beautiful early summer time; geranium, iris, buddleja (butterfly bush), pansy, grevillea, callistemon and roses. The Eucalyptus trees have finished flowering but they have an abundance of new growth and with all the spring rain we have had they look so full and beautiful. Lemon gum and cordata are my favourites right now.
On my gathering expeditions in my garden I get lost in the beautiful colours and often spend half an hour in a tiny space with my macro lens capturing all sorts of beautiful colours and shapes. It’s impossibly beautiful when I take the time to slow down and look closely.
Deciduous tress don’t have to be turning to give colour to the dye pots, and we are getting some lovely maple, pin oak and oak leaf prints. The windfall treasures of old gum leaves and bracken are featuring a lot in our bundles now too, their ghostly greys and browns and resists (prints) are so beautiful.
Prunus, tansy, onion skins, native cherry, red cabbage (we miss purple carrots) and rust are giving us colour in the dye pot, always a surprise as they change with the seasons too. It’s a good thing we like an adventure 🙂
Cotton rag paper is always fun and we are getting beautiful results. See our instagram page for the video showing the piece below in full, just after it was unbundled.
So with all this we are so busy dyeing light summer scarves and making silky merino dresses and leggings, silk dresses, arm warmers and all sorts of things for the last few Christmas markets. Our online shop is now open too so if you can’t make it to our markets, take a peek in our store!
We hope to see you soon and share the beauty of a scarf or garment that sings to you, they always do!
